Canadian Chiropractors – How Our Experts Can Help
We are proud to have 85% of all Canadian chiropractors as members of the Canadian Chiropractic Association (CCA). There are more than 9,000 licenced chiropractors practicing in Canada and the CCA is the national association and voice for Canadian chiropractors. To qualify as a member of the CCA, each chiropractor must be registered by their provincially-legislated regulatory and licensing authority, and must also be a member of their provincial association. At least 4.7 million Canadians visit a chiropractor each year.
Each CCA member has completed a rigourous academic and practical education (including national standardized educational requirements) and passed a licencing examination (by province) to become a Doctor of Chiropractic (DC).
Chiropractors are extensively educated in the prevention, assessment, diagnosis and management of musculoskeletal conditions and associated neurological system and will recommend a course of treatment to help relieve pain and improve function without surgery or pharmaceuticals, such as manipulation, mobilization, soft tissue therapy, exercise, education, modalities (i.e. ultrasound or laser) and rehabilitation. Chiropractors are also trained to provide nutritional counselling, as well as recommend injury prevention strategies.
Canada also boasts a vibrant community of chiropractic researchers who actively collaborate in interprofessional research initiatives, providing the scientific basis – the evidence – on using chiropractic treatment to improve musculoskeletal conditions and injuries. Chiropractic research provides the evidence upon which the chiropractic profession bases best practices and patient-centred treatment – what is known in all health professions as “evidence-based” treatment. The body of knowledge that comes from research allows chiropractors to provide safe, scientifically-sound and the most current treatment in their practice – bringing the most advanced methods to patient care. Chiropractic research also informs other health professionals who partner with chiropractors to deliver quality musculoskeletal treatment to their patients.
