National chiropractic leaders in Whitehorse to highlight access to care in remote and Indigenous communities

September 10, 2025 – Whitehorse, YT — The Board of Directors of the Canadian Chiropractic Association (CCA) representing more than 8,000 chiropractors across Canada, is in Whitehorse this week to meet with local leaders and engage the community on solutions to improve health care access in northern, remote, and Indigenous communities.

During their visit, CCA leaders will tour the Yukon Legislature, meet with public officials, and host a reception to engage local leadership and the media on the urgent need to expand health care resources across the territory and beyond.

“In every corner of the country, Canadians deserve timely access to safe and effective health care options,” said Dr. Russ Baron, CCA Board Chair. “Being here in the Yukon, shows Canadians and our peers in health care that access to non-pharmaceutical options for joint and muscle pain is a priority issue. Our Board recognizes the urgent need for expanded healthcare resources in remote and Indigenous communities, with solutions that are collaborative and built on trusting relationships.” said Dr. Jennifer Ward, CCA Board Delegate and Co-Chair of the Indigenous Chiropractic Caucus.

Chiropractors are spine, muscle, joint, and nervous system experts who provide effective, non-drug, non-surgical care for pain and mobility issues. Expanding access to chiropractic care in underserved communities can ease pressure on overburdened health systems and provide people with more care options close to home.

“The CCA is committed to working with governments, Indigenous leaders, and local health authorities to ensure people in remote and northern communities have timely access to care,” said Dr. Ayla Azad, CCA CEO. “We know that distance, cost, and limited availability of care providers often mean people go without the support they need. By expanding access to chiropractic services, we can help reduce these barriers, support healthier communities, and ease the strain on the broader health system. This is about making sure that every Canadian, no matter where they live, have the opportunity to live pain-free, active, and healthy lives.”

The reception in Whitehorse will give community leaders, policymakers, and media a chance to speak directly with national health leaders about collaborative solutions to improve access and equity in care.
