Honouring Canada’s National Day for Truth and Reconciliation

On September 30, Canadians reflect on the legacy of residential schools, honour Survivors and their families, and acknowledge the truths of Canada’s history.

Canada’s National Day for Truth and Reconciliation is not only a time of remembrance but also a call to action. It asks all of us to confront the inequities that persist today and to commit to building a more equitable and healthier future together.

For the Canadian Chiropractic Association (CCA), this means considering how our profession can contribute to reconciliation by providing healthcare that is respectful, inclusive, and patient-centred.

The Indigenous Chiropractic Caucus (ICC), co-chaired by Dr. Jennifer Ward (Manitoba) and Dr. David Peeace (Saskatchewan), was established in 2022 and formally recognized in November 2023 at a signing ceremony in Ottawa. The ICC is the first of its kind in Canada, created to support Indigenous chiropractors, advance cultural competency and cultural safety within the profession, and help reduce barriers to care for Indigenous patients. Its work includes advocacy, education, mentorship and outreach, research, and knowledge sharing.

This year, we are honoured to feature a reflection from co-chair Dr. Peeace.
