Investing in Your Spine as a New Parent
Adjusting to life with a newborn is exciting and full of new routines, so it’s easy for spine health to take a back seat while you focus on your little one. Between sleepless nights, feeding schedules, and the constant demands of parenting, many parents put their own wellbeing last.
But according to Dr. Michelle Zemari, chiropractor and founder of The Wellnest Family Clinic in King City, investing in your spine is about investing in yourself.

“Accountability is key,” says Dr. Zemari. “One thing I recommend for new parents is that they sign up for a class, even once a week. When you’ve paid for it, and there’s a cancellation fee, you’re more likely to show up. That’s the best way to get movement back into your routine.”

Gentle activity, whether it’s stroller walks, mom-and-baby fitness classes, or a short yoga session, can support spinal strength while also easing the mental load. “Stress often shows up in the body,” Dr. Zemari explains. “I see it in clenched jaws, tight shoulders, or back pain from hours at a desk or from hunching over while breast/chest or bottle feeding. Moving regularly and seeing a chiropractor can address that tension, helping you to feel more at ease.”
Improving posture habits are also simple but powerful “investments,” according to Dr. Zemari. Small adjustments such as using pillows for feeding, holding your baby in a carrier instead of your arms, keeping wrists neutral, or adding a few posture resets into your day can prevent aches from becoming bigger issues.
Most importantly, Dr. Zemari encourages parents to view spine care as part of their overall wellbeing. “It’s not just about reducing pain, it’s about feeling stronger and more supported in every part of life,” she says.
