Canadian Chiropractic Association to Host Biennial Research Symposium on Advancing the Canadian Chiropractic Research Agenda

Toronto (September 23, 2013) – The Canadian Chiropractic Association (CCA) will be hosting the biennial Research Symposium on September 27-28, 2013 in Toronto. This leading, prestigious event brings together a university-based collaborative network of 50 world-class chiropractic researchers from 16 universities across Canada, with academic expertise in the disciplines of neurophysiology, biomechanics, epidemiology and cellular/molecular biology. The Research Consortium meets every two years to address the key issues and priorities facing the chiropractic profession and the growing need to close the research-practice gap.

Among the many world-class researchers attending, this year’s symposium boasts speakers such as: Dr. Colin Carrie, BSc (Hons.), DC, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of the Environment, Dr. Michael G. Fehlings, MD, PhD, FRCSC, FACS, Halbert Chair in Neural Repair and Regeneration, Medical Director of the Krembil Neuroscience Centre, and Professor of Neurosurgery and Toronto Western Hospital Head of Spine Program at the University of Toronto, and Dr. Hani El-Gabalawy, MD,  Scientific Director, Institute of Musculoskeletal Health and Arthritis at the  Canadian Institutes of Health Research.

“Credible research from world-class researchers that withstands the scrutiny of the scientific community brings tremendous benefits to Canadians, while mitigating Canada’s economic burdens of health, illness and disability”, says Dr. Allan Gotlib, C.M., DC, Director of Research Programs at the CCA, Editor of the JCCA, and Executive Vice-President of the Canadian Chiropractic Research Foundation.

This year’s theme will focus on Closing the Research-Practice Gap in Neuromusculoskeletal Health, Injury and Disease. The 15 sponsors of this collaborative event include  the CCA, Canadian Chiropractic Protective Association, Canadian Chiropractic Research Foundation, College of Chiropractors of British Columbia, Fondation de recherche chiropratique du Québec, and all provincial chiropractic associations.
