Let’s Get Chiropractors Added to the DTC

The Department of Finance is currently exploring potential legislative changes to the Income Tax Act, creating an opportunity for chiropractors to be added to the list of authorized health care practitioners capable of certifying the Disability Tax Credit (DTC).

The DTC is a non-refundable tax credit designed to provide financial peace of mind — helping Canadians with disabilities, or supporting family members, reduce the amount of income tax they have to pay.

With extensive clinical and post-secondary education, chiropractors are qualified to assess and certify DTC forms. While chiropractic remains absent from federal legislation, the House of Commons Standing Committee on Finance — aware of the crucial role we play in the everyday lives of millions of Canadians — recommended extending DTC eligibility to chiropractors back in 2018.

Your voice matters. The Canadian Chiropractic Association (CCA) is calling on chiropractors, patients, and the public to participate in a letter-writing campaign. The letter emphasizes the importance of further broadening health care options for Canadians by adding chiropractors to the DTC.

Recognizing chiropractors within the DTC certification process would:

  • Improve access for eligible Canadians.
  • Reduce unnecessary administrative barriers.
  • Ensure assessments are completed by health care practitioners with appropriate expertise.
